This website, iiapp.org, was launched in September 2011. It aims to showcase research on international investment arbitration in a way that is accessible, independent, and relevant. It was motivated by past questions from governments, businesses, NGOs, and the media.
The website is produced by researchers based at Osgoode Hall Law School of York University. It is not funded by any government, business, or non-governmental organization and not developed by anyone who earns income as an arbitrator, lawyer, or witness in investment arbitration.
The website is based on a database of information collected from publicly-available materials in known arbitrations under investment treaties (to May 2010). It includes information on individual arbitrators and summaries of cases that relate to policy areas such as agriculture, energy, environmental protection, local government, public health, and taxation.
